Álvaro Romero cria música como quem se cria a si próprio.
O espírito andaluz, a tradição da cultura romani, a afirmação da causa queer e o peso da existência enquanto homem (seja lá o que isso for) habitam a sua voz, que parece projetar-se num anseio de ser ouvida onde quer que possa alcançar. “Nasci como quis, o meu corpo é uma batalha”, canta enquanto uma das metades de RomeroMartín, onde, acompanhado da produção de Toni Martín, inventou o improvável ponto de encontro entre a catarse do flamenco e o êxtase da eletrónica industrial.
Manifiesto (2020), disco de estreia da dupla em que professa lealdade à aceitação universal, repúdio ao chauvinismo e, acima de tudo, orgulho em si mesmo, é apenas um de muitos mundos em que o seu ultimato teimará em fazer-se soar: em residência artística para o MIL, iniciou uma nova colaboração com Pedro da Linha, na qual inaugurou uma vertente mais naturalista da sua escrita visceral.

Sob a premissa de um continente europeu sem fronteiras, o Liveurope vem unir o Musicbox a vinte outras salas europeias, de Oslo a Barcelona à Tessalónica, no propósito comum de promover os EENNA (Emerging European Non-National Artists), músicos europeus estreantes vindos de países diferentes dos das salas que os acolhem, criando uma rede pan-europeia de difusão das novas frequências continentais. Ainda que a pandemia tenha interrompido a atividade destas salas, o Musicbox não quis que o distanciamento social causasse um curto-circuito a esta conexão entre artistas e público. Colmata-o, agora, com este catálogo de promessas da música europeia que deveriam ter passado pelo seu palco, e têm a vinda adiada ao regresso à normalidade.

Álvaro Romero creates music like he is creating oneself.
The Andalusian spirit, the tradition of the Romani culture, the queer affirmation and the weight of his existence as a man (whatever that is) live together in his voice, one that seems to come out yearning to make itself heard everywhere it reaches. “I was born like I wanted to, my body is battle”, he sings as half of RomeroMartín, where, alongside Toni Martín’s production, he invented the unlikely connection between flamenco’s catharsis and electronic industrial music bliss.
Manifesto (2020), the group’s first album where they claim loyalty to universal acceptance, dismay for chauvinism and, above all, self-pride, is just one of the many worlds where his ultimatum will insist on being heard: at MIL, Álvaro went on an artistic residency and collaboration with Pedro da Linha, in which he gave life to a more naturalist version of his visceral writing.

Under the premise of a European continent without borders, Liveurope brings together Musicbox and other twenty European music venues from Oslo to Barcelona to Thessaloniki with the common purpose of promoting EENNAs (Emerging European Non-National Artists), European musicians who are just starting and come from different countries than those of the venues receiving them, creating a pan-European network that diffuses the new continental frequencies. And even though the pandemic has interrupted the venues’ work, Musicbox didn’t want social distancing causing a shorting in this connection between artists and audiences. It tackles it, right now, with this catalog of the European music promises that should have played on its stage and saw their coming postponed to when life gets back to normal.
